Ramadan started on August 22nd. It's a time of fasting (including eating, drinking...even water!, and smoking) from sun up to sun down for a month. Restaurants everywhere are shut down during the time of fasting. I went to the mall the other day and walked over by the food court and it was so strange to see it pretty much empty! It's illegal for anyone (including westerners) to eat or drink in public during the day. If you are caught taking a sip of water even while driving your car, you can be arrested! Pretty wild!!

The malls are decorated really pretty for Ramadan. I took this picture the other night while waiting to turn into the mall. I love the lights on the palm trees!
