Dubai World Cup

Wow, wow, wow....What an event!!!!

As you all know, Dubai does everything big and over-the-top but this World Cup was just in a league of it's own!! The World Cup is the annual horse racing competition. It's a BIG DEAL here in Dubai. Sheikh Mo loves horses and, as you may know, I have a giant crush on him! I think I may take him as a 2nd husband . ;) Wink wink!

Where do I start...first of all, the fashion was to die for. So many women were wearing the most gorgeous dresses I have ever seen, elaborate hats and killer heels. I thought that I was pretty dressed up when we were leaving our apartment but I may as well have worn a potato sack. Ok, that's a little dramatic, but do you get what I'm saying?!?!

We went with Bob and Karen, Suzanne and her husband Jon, and Jon's best friend Patrick and his wife Kristen who were visiting from Chicago. Miss V stayed with Mary, our maid and now baby sitter, and Fayth while the adults were out having fun!

The track was HUGE, designed beautifully and very clean. We missed the best dressed competition (which was ok by me, since there was NO WAY I would win!) but we did get our pictures taken at the Ahlan Studio. Ahlan is a papparazzi magazine in Dubai, sort of like Us Weekly back home. They do a special World Cup addition every year where they post pics of people who came to the event. I hope our photo makes it into it!

I can't say much about the actual races because I didn't really watch them. I would pretty much pick the horse with a funny name and that was it. We did a little gambling of our own and I think it was either 5 or 10 AED for each race. Aaron did win one time which was fun!

We stayed a long time and left just before the Elton John/Santana concert. I really wanted to see the concert but at the point we were exhausted and it was time to go home and get our gal.

We decided to forgo taking the shuttle bus to the lot and just walked ourselves. We hopped fences, ran across highways (thankfully they were shut down or at least the traffic stopped!) and finally made it back to the car.

It was such a great experience!!! I love the World Cup!
