One of our biggest "beefs" with Dubai is the freakin' roads. The way things are layed out just does not make sense and on top of that, you will never use the same road twice (just about). What I mean is, they are constantly doing construction out here, so the roads always change. I had a follow up appointment with my doctor a few weeks ago and while driving to the hospital, I got so confused because the highways were completely different! Of course, I started loudly cursing my husband while driving because he didn't tell me that everything had changed and he never told me the new way to go! When I mentioned it to him later when I got home, Aaron was a little fresh with me and told me that "it should have been easy to figure out". Well, excuse me! So, I guess it wasn't so easy for Mr. Vanney because when we were going to the hospital clinic today for V's appointment, he somehow ended up driving us to the wrong part of Dubai! Hah!
This is the kicker though. You can't just turn around and easily correct your mistake. In Dubai, one wrong turn, missed exit, you name it, will end up costing you about half an hour to fix!!!! So Aaron tried his best, but we were about 40 minutes late to our appointment! We did get a scenic view of a nasty slum-ish area though so I feel like if anything it was a cultural experience? At one point, Aaron got so pissed, he decided to just drive home and restart the whole trip! Luckily we didn't have to go all the way home because he figured out some exit to take to get us to the hospital. I did call the doctor's office and the receptionist told me "it doesn't matter" that we would be very late. I guess they are used to it!
In other news, we decided today to get Veronica the BCG vaccine. The BCG vaccine is given for TB protection. It's not given to babies in the USA but since we are here in Dubai, and there are tons of people here from developing countries, chances are that people have TB. We had originally declined the vaccine at the hospital because it gives a very yucky scar but better to have a scar than TB I guess. I feel very guilty about it though and I feel sad that her perfect little arm is now going to have a scar on it :(
Now onto the good news. Veronica now weighs a whopping 10.5 pounds!! Her head circumference increased by 4.5 cm. The doctor said she has a very strong neck and great head control. She is currently at where a typical 3 month old would be! (Sorry but I just HAVE to brag!)
